Typically, for females specifically, we recommend coming before heat, before they would start their period cycles. That would occur before five months, and we offer that same general timeline for males before five months.
What Are The Medical Benefits Of Spaying And Neutering A Cat?
There are a lot of medical benefits to doing it. It helps them live longer and healthier. It also reduces their risk of getting cancers and uterine or testicular infections. It also takes away those heat cycles that I just mentioned.
Will Spaying And Neutering Affect The Behavior Of My Cat?
It definitely can. It’ll make your cat calmer. It’ll make it have less aggression, less irritability, marking behavior, all those types of things that would happen if their hormones were not kept in check.
How Should I Care For My Cat Before And After The Spaying Or Neutering Procedure?
Before we do any anesthetic procedure, we tell you not to feed your cat before the surgery. The morning of, no breakfast for them. The night before, they can have dinner and water until that point. After the procedure, their behavior can differ a little bit because they were under anesthesia, so we always have you stay with them, check on them, keep them dry from that incision site, check it to make sure it doesn’t become infected, and we recommend putting them in a room separate from any other animals or pets, so they can’t get themselves into any trouble.
